The neuron fires strongly on instances of the infinitive marker “to” when it follows an auxiliary or modal verb (e.g. “continue to…”, “have always…”, “will continue to…”), i.e. it is detecting “to” in verb-phrase constructions expressing intent, continuation, or obligation.
